Preparations

So, the situation is dire. You have a full kitchen to pack and only one day to do it. Well, you better start packing right away, right? Wrong! Proper packing is impossible without preparations. While you may want to be as fast as possible, you should first want to avoid packing mistakes as they will cost you. So, before you start getting things packed, you first need to make some preparations.

Do inventory

Start off by getting everything out of your drawers and cupboards. You need to have a clear idea of everything that you have in your kitchen. Proceed to sort your entire kitchen into three groups. Things that you will need, things that you will need in the next couple of days, and things that you don’t need. A lot of people have a hard time deciding that they don’t need something, but it is essential that you be as strict as possible. If you haven’t used something in six months, you probably don’t need it. The less you have to pack the quicker it will be. Furthermore, you will more easily organize your kitchen after the move. Make sure to have a separate pile of things that are bare essentials for your everyday use.

Packing supplies

Once you have figured out what needs to get packed, you need to find packing supplies. In order to pack your kitchen in one day, you will need to get some wrapping paper (old newspapers will do just fine), towels and thick clothes. While things like knives and fork are made to be resilient, your ceramic plates are not so much. You will need to protect them, as is you were packing expensive collectibles. Thick clothes and towels are great for padding your fragile items. They will provide great amortization from the sudden movement. You will need wrapping paper in order to mitigate vibrations and other smaller, yet consistent movements.

Boxes

Another thing that you will need in order to pack your kitchen in one day are moving boxes. We are not gonna lie, you will need a bit of luck in order to get them in one day. Go to your local business and stores and ask if they have some to spare. Take whatever they can give you. Even if the box is in poor condition, you can do some simple repairs with ducktape and a little cardboard. Visit every store that is in your immediate neighborhood. Aim for those that get daily shipments. There you will have the biggest chance of finding moving boxes in Manhattan.

Pack your kitchen in one day

Now that you have everything ready, it’s time to start packing. Rember, even though you have to pack your kitchen in one day, you should avoid rushing as much as you can. A small oversight can lead to a moving accident and you may end up with a pile of broken plates. Make sure that you do everything properly, especially when handling fragile items.

Wrapping

For wrapping, you can use your thinner clothes, like t-shirts, and old newspapers. Wrapping is there to protect your items from small movements and vibrations. Without it, your items would likely get scratched or chipped. Things made out of ceramic, like plates and cups really don’t like touching each other while moving around. Therefore, you should make sure that there is no direct contact between any fragile items. Padding is there to protect your items from big movement. You need to place it between the items and the inner sides of boxes. They will mitigate any bumps along the road that would, without padding, easily damage your items. The more fragile an item is, the more wrapping and padding it needs to stay in pristine condition.

Putting into boxes

You need to use boxes that will fit both the items and the padding and wrapping materials. Do not try to fit in things that cannot fit without padding. There is no need to push your luck. Start with your more fragile items and work your way up to the most resilient such as spoons and forks. If necessary, you can even place them in plastic bags, as there is little chance of them getting damaged. Make sure that the boxes you use for the heavier items are sturdy enough to support them. Use ducktape to strengthen your boxes so that there is no chance of them ripping while being handled. No wrapping or padding will save you if your box rips.

Finishing touches

Finish up pack your kitchen in one day, with tapping your boxes and labeling them. Make sure to use easily visible markers so that anyone handling your box will know what is inside. Use different colored markers and write down if anything inside the box is fragile or heavy. If you hire Downtown Manhattan movers, you will need to let them know what is inside of your boxes if they are going to properly transport them. Once you are done with that, that is pretty much it. You have managed to successfully pack your kitchen in one day. Congrats!
